After the thrilling success of last year’s Barrel Yard Sessions at the Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny, the programme returns this year promising highlight after highlight. The Sessions kicked off on March 30th, with live music from The Backyard Band, servings of award-winning Indian food from the Spice Genie food truck and Ireland’s beloved red ale on tap. Meanwhile, the second weekend of the sessions saw The Raindogs take to the stage with Mexican dishes on offer this time around. Just a taste of what’s in store every weekend from May to September this year.

For locals The Barrel Yard sessions are the perfect place for post-work drinks or starting point for a night out. But it’s also ideal for tour groups and visitors who want a taste of the city’s history and vibrant events. Given Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny’s prime location right in the heart of the city, it also makes a great central hub for a wide range of weekend activities, particularly during Kilkenny’s many festivals and sporting events which will be taking place throughout the summer.   • The event will take place within the historic Barrel Yard which pays homage to the former Smithwick’s brewery yard where wooden barrels used to be repaired and stored in advance of being filled with Smithwick’s ale to be distributed across the country.
