St. Patrick’s Day in Kilkenny 2024

For St. Patrick’s Day 2024, there’s no better place to be than Kilkenny city. Running from the 15th - 18th March, the St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny offers a range of fun filled activities from music to acrobatics and, of course, the much-anticipated St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Here are some of our top choices for an unforgettable St. Patrick’s Day in the marble city.

Pick up Some Treats at The Festival Market

Open from 11am – 6pm each day of the festival, the Festival Market is the perfect place to indulge in local fare from vendors across the city. Discover the creativity and local produce on offer from true masters of their craft. Along with treats and freshly made lunches you can purchase mementos of your time in Kilkenny or gifts for loved ones back home. You’ll find the Festival Market located on Mayor’s Walk beside the parade.

Step Back in Time at the Viking Village

From 3pm – 5pm on St. Patrick’s Day, a very special event will take place to the delight of history enthusiasts, families, and anyone with an interest in “craft, combat and conversation”. Fittingly taking place at Castle Yard across from the majestic Kilkenny Castle, Déise Medieval will be putting on a recreation of an early Viking settlement. Experience the crafts and skills of the early-mid Medieval age brought to life around you. You’re sure to learn something interesting and have a lot of fun along the way!

Kick off the Festival with a Song

As a festival famed for its music and culture, there are few better ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with a song. As part of Kilkenny Tradfest a number of concerts will be taking place throughout St. Patrick’s Day sure to get you into the party spirit. Pádraig Jack and Breaking Trad will take to the Parade Stage to perform during the day while later in the evening acts such as Buíoch, Nell Ní Chróinín and Reel to Reel will thrill crowds across the city with energetic sets made to delight and entrance.

Enjoy the Main Event at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

It isn’t St. Patrick’s Day without the annual parade and this year the Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be celebrating the city in all its historic and ancient charm. The parade Route this year will run from John Street to Rose Inn Street, The Parade, High Street, and finish at the Market Yard. Be sure to get there early to get a good viewing space and watch as tales from the ancient past and modern day come to life in vibrant and enchanting interpretations.

See the Skies In Colour

Finish St. Patrick’s Day in vibrant colour and enjoy a true feast for the eyes with the Kilkenny Fireworks Display. You can purchase tickets for prime viewing spots in Castle Yard where a kaleidoscope of vibrant displays will take over the night’s sky – a magical way to end the day. Enjoy with friends and family and watch as the city’s medieval skyline is overtaken by colour and aerial art. The gates to the Castle Yard will open at 7pm while the main event will begin at 7.30pm.
